This cozy Mexican and El Salvadorian hybrid is 100% authentic. Tacos Lupita serves up some of the area’s best, handmade tacos at the cheapest prices. Less is definitely more at this hidden Elm Street hole in the wall including their stellar gorditas and tasty mulitas. Cash only!
The Boston Globe recently highlighted Tacos Lupita as one of the best taco spots in Boston: "You can get football-sized burritos at chains in Cambridge's Porter Square, but do yourself the favor of walking a few blocks east to this Somerville mecca. You'll find daintily proportioned tacos stuff ed with chorizo good enough to make an East LA native homesick. The smoky, warm-spiced sausage is charred and crumbled, then topped with the requisite onions and cilantro and served with an optional side of hot and tart tomatillo-based salsa that oozes freshness. Without the salsa, the tacos can border on dry, but with it, they're transcendent. Bottom line Don't let size fool you - these smallish snacks pack flavor that comes at you stronger than a masked wrestler at a lucha libre."

Redbones is a happy-go-lucky playground for carnivores on the prowl. This Davis Square landmark is possibly the most famous barbecue joint in Boston, it's almost always packed to the gills with people lingering over their pulled pork, ribs, all impeccably slow-cooked. Come prepared for a long wait, which you can spend quite happily in Underbones, the basement bar under Redbones. This mecca of meat is no place for herbivores: about the only vegetarian offering is cornbread, and even that is thoroughly permeated with the aroma of freshly grilled flesh. Heaping full dinners with ribs, sausage, or an assortment of other meats, plus 2 sides and a dessert, run $15-$22. Go with your instincts in ordering, and feel free to point at what your neighbor is having. Come only with good friends who don't mind you using your hands.
Redbones Goes Green: The owners at Redbones are committed to running a greener, cleaner restaurant. They're partnered with Green Grease Monkey of Boston to have their old fryer oil recycled and turned into biodiesel. The resulting fuel is biodegradable, non-toxic and great for any diesel engine.

While the Paul Revere Beverage store is true neighborhood liquor stop in every sense of the word (you may find yourself in line with a cast of Winter Hill’s colorful regulars), the service at this corner package store far outweighs any negative first impressions. The guys working the counter really make an effort to treat their patrons with respect. While the store places an emphasis on Coors and Bud products armed with the cheapest 40-ounce beers in town (only $2 for their Natural Light bottles), they’ve made a concerted effort to improve their selection of wines, imports and hard-to-find brews. And, for the local history buff, this package store marks the spot where Paul Revere made his famous “The British are Coming!” jaunt through town. In fact, there’s a nifty historical marker right across the street from Paul Revere Beverage to get more information.

Although a bit out of the way, this bar succors the countless hungry and, well, thirsty scholars who have been frequenting it for years. Choose from 24 beers on tap and 26 in bottles to wash down remarkably tasty bar food (entrees $6.50-9). Irish pub decor, great waitresses, and an “I'm not too old to party” crowd lend to a frolicsome atmosphere. Su trivia nights, kicking off at 9pm, are not to be missed. Neighborhood liquor store with an above-average selection of beer and potent potables. Compared to nearby stores like Downtown Wine and Spirits on Elm Street, the offerings at Crowley’s Liquors is limited but relatively cheaper than the rest (for example, their 40-ounce Bud is about a buck less at Crowley’s). This Ball Square package store also boasts fast and friendly service.

Irish dive bar with cheap booze and stellar jukebox. Brews run around $3.25 at Sligo Pub and their selection is pretty darn good. Once you make it past the smell of stale beer and the cryptic graffiti in the bathroom, you'll feel right at home at this hidden Davis Square haunt.

Located in Somerville’s Winter Hill neighborhood near the Shaw’s on Broadway, Winter Hill Liquor Mart offers an excellent selection of liquor and beers at a reasonable price. For those not familiar with this part of town, step outside of the store to witness a spectacular view of the Boston skyline. Also, the mart has one of the neighborhood’s more comprehensive selection of scratch-off tickets.
