Groundwork Somerville strives to bring about the sustained regeneration, improvement and management of the physical environment through the development of community-based partnerships which empower people, businesses and organizations to promote environmental, economic and social well-being within the Somerville community.
Groundwork Somerville runs programs year-round in Somerville and the surrounding area. Programs include: Schoolyard Gardens: in-school, after-school and summer science and nutrition curriculum-based lessons with elementary school students; Green Team: high school jobs program, focusing on the "green jobs" sector; Community Corridor Planning: a collaboration of Groundwork, the Somerville Community Corporation, the Somerville Transportation Equity Partnership and the Somerville Community Health Agenda to engage residents in the land-use planning process surrounding the extension of the Green Line to Somerville and Medford.
